This actually keeps coming up quite a bit in my online discussions, so I'm making this into a blog post to save myself time in the future. This way I can just direct people to this, instead of explaining it every time. Its just common sense, but ... people can be really stupid.
Average person is what we consider "normal" person. Half of the population is dumber and poorer than the average.
A poor person remains poor because they are stupid. An intelligent person can be poor, but statistically it will only be briefly. Difference is in approach to opportunities which present themselves to us every day. Just because you cannot recognize opportunities presented to you does not mean that they are not there.
A poor person likes to think that we are all somehow equal, but that its just based on luck who is wealthy. A wealthy person knows that is not true.
A poor person thinks going to school and getting a diploma is how things are done and just does it because it appears that everyone else is doing it. A wealthy person goes to school (if other avenue of learning is not available, which was not when I was young, but today we have internet) simply to gain knowledge to be able to pursue an independent course of action. Those might sound similar, but they are not.
Poor person ends up with diploma that is usually somewhere in the middle, or a meaningless three year or less trade school, and a pile of debt. Decision on which courses to take was based on stupid reasoning such as what is in demand today (and not what will be in demand after you graduate), or on concepts that are abstract, such as someone else telling them what they should be doing with their life.
So poor person basically just wastes time and money on education without clear concept of how is that going to create more than just get a job.
And "get a job" is exactly how you stay poor.
American Dream is a lie. If you work hard it just means you burn out faster. Key is to work smart, not hard. To arbitrage. Get others to do heavy lifting for you.
Reason why is what I call artificial income ceiling. That means that you are choosing to cap your maximum earning potential.
When you work for someone else you get paid per hour, or per contract, which is really very similar, so we will stick to per hour base.
When you start, you get paid pitiful amounts. If you are curious who gets paid how much, here is helpful link:
Average Salary Ranges for Entry Level Jobs
Quick glance reveals that most folks can expect 30-40,000 per year. And that is assuming they have at least 3 or 4 year community college diploma which likely incurred twice that in debt to begin with. That income is capped. You will be paid amount they tell you, and other than minimal tiny raises, and perhaps little bit of overtime, that is all you'll be making. You chose to allow someone else to dictate what your time is worth.
It does not matter if you are three times as good at your job as all of your peers. Promotions are always few and far in between, and it is those who have connections, who brown nose, who bribe, sleep with or are related to bosses that will get ahead. And sometimes none of that is enough and when spot opens they bring in completely new person to fill it instead of promoting you or one of your peers. You chose to allow others to decide when and whether you life gets better.
And that is why poor people tend to be stupid.
Oh, obviously, some folks think that starting their own business is how you do it. And it is. But statistically 98% of new businesses fail within first five years. Over 60% fail in first year. Reason why some take as long as five is because people keep investing more money. They triple mortgage their home, keep taking out loans. And they flush it all down the drain to keep alive something that should just be allowed to die.
There are many ways to get around all of this combined poor mentality. If what you want is simple education in how to make money online, I've posted several compilations of completely free courses on this blog. But you have to be one to take action. Nobody else can do that for you.
