Simple Way To Shorten Amazon Affiliate Links

I just read some nonsense about Amazon prohibiting usage of shorteners and social media, and I'd like to point out that its not true. This is link to  Amazon Associates Social Networking FAQ.

Having said that I will also mention that affiliate links from Pinterest get stripped. What you can do is link image to a blog post, have affiliate link on the blog post, and get your commission that way.

You CAN just use any other link shortening service if you like, Goo.gl, for example, but that removes ability for Amazon to provide you some analytics so best way is to shorten URL using Amazon itself.

Normally, URL Amazon gives you will look something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V4H9AR2/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00V4H9AR2&linkCode=as2&tag=zeweno-20&linkId=NMUGFXAIPABSYA4A

Too long, too unattractive and it just looks like a mess.

Most important part of that will be your Amazon affiliate code, mine, for this website, is zeweno-20, you should create different ones for different websites so you can easily keep track where your hits are coming from and so it would be easy to fix any issues Amazon might have over TOS breaking, for example if they find your link in an ebook or on someone else's website. They would see its unusual activity as 99.99% of hits using zeweno-20 would be from this domain.

And ASIN, the Amazon product ID. In this case ASIN is B00V4H9AR2.

So you can shorten above mess of an URL to this:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V4H9AR2/?tag=zeweno-20

However, Amazon also has their own URL shortening service, so even above URL can be shortened further to this:

http://amzn.com/dp/B00V4H9AR2/?tag=zeweno-20

Finally, you can test your short links using  Amazon Associates Link Checker tool.

And you might find these Amazon links usefull as well:
