There is a LOT of controversy surrounding marketing methods used to popularize .xyz domains, and allegations that number of choice domains were given for free to Google (such as abc.xyz), however fact remains that .com domains are not the only game in town any more and folks are getting used to using other domains.
In a recent auction MyAuctions.com got sold for $11,000 while Auctions.xyz sold for only $310, so old school domaineering is just about dead, which is not exactly a bad thing. Instead of selling couple domains to make a million, you might need to sell few thousand, but I find it to be far less hassle to buy 12000 .xyz and resell at $99 then just amount of time it would take me to find, negotiate, and finally sell single .com domain for 100k. Plus I feel lot less need to pay escrow fees over sales under hundred bucks a piece.
If you want to stick up on.xyz domains, now is a great time as Namecheap sells them for just $1 a piece (with included $2.88 value Whois Protection).
There are plenty of us excited over the upcoming Facebook dislike button as it always felt missing.
