This is probably the second most asked question about Bitcoin, right after ‘What is Bitcoin?’
1. Bitcoin Faucets. This is the simplest way of obtaining your first Satoshis (1 Satoshi = 0.00000001 BTC it is smallest unit of Bitcoin currency that can be sent) . You are not going to get rich off of faucets, but you might get enough to buy something small. There are literally hundreds of faucets out there, funded by donations from people, but there are at least tens of thousands of users and so amounts given out are really tiny. On top of that most faucets show annoying amount of advertisements and unless you have unlimited time on your hands, nothing better to do and unlimited bandwidth (as those ads will kill it) you are far better off with one of other methods.
If you want to test Bitcoin faucet that actually might give you $200 (highly unlikely but its top prize, I tested it 40 times and I got minimum 39/40 times and 1/40 one above minimum) go here. You solve quick captcha once per hour and can have webpage run and make little sound when its time to do it again, or just leave and come back later.
2. You can go on one of many forums, or Reddit subsections, and simply ask somebody random in post to send you some. You can expect few good Samaritans to send you something like $0.001 worth of Bitcoin (yes, I mean 1/10th of a cent).
3. You can go to one of microtask sites that pay in Bitcoin. I have not tested any therefore I am not going to link to any. They all have affiliate programs and are similar to ClixSense so if you want to do that type of work, just go to ClixSense and get paid in dollars as you can trust it far more than brand new operation.
4. Place QR code and your Bitcoin receiving address in forum signatures, ideally forums that actually deal with Bitcoin as that way you are not wasting time asking from people who have no interest in Bitcoin, and ask for tips if they find your posts helpful. This only works if you are actually knowledgeable and helpful. If you are spamming, you will just get banned.
5. Go to one of dozen places that imitate Fiverr.com, but pay in Bitcoin. Again I would just advise going to actual Fiverr.com if you want to do small tasks as there is no risk of not getting paid. I tested Fiverr for a month, made bit over $2700, and they paid me in matter of few hours through Paypal. If you really want to get paid in Bitcoin, then you can go to Jobs 4 Bitcoins on Reddit, as you are lot less likely to get burned than on one of Fiverr clones. When they originally started popping up, I had couple of my virtual assistants basically copy all my gigs all over the place. As my gigs are all automated and take no time I could do virtually unlimited amount and I was ready for increase in volume. And … nothing. No increase in volume. From 30 clone sites I got total of 7 gigs, and only got paid from one. So stick with reputable marketplaces, do not be a guinea pig.
6. If you are a gambler, there are increasing number of Gambling websites that accept and pay out in Bitcoin.FreeBitCo lets you gamble with what you earned from them. Its simple high/low gamble. I advise against gambling. My mother loved it so much that she invested in a casino. I had three months of training as dealer for large variety of casino games while bonding with my mother. There is only one thing I am certain about when it comes to gambling, nobody, and I mean NOBODY, ever wins in the end but a casino.
7. Open your own shop, online or offline, and start accepting Bitcoins as form of payment. If you are curious as to how that works, I set one up on this site for demo purposes.
8. Earn Bitcoins by trading or arbitrage. This is same as trading commodities or stocks. Prices of Bitcoin can have large differences for short window of time on different exchanges. Buy low, sell high. Currently price of Bitcoin looks fairly steady at $350, only moving up or down few dollars at a time. If that trend persists this method would not make you lot of money. But you can try other cryptocurrencies as they still might have wild value.
9. Just buy some Bitcoins. From a person, from an exchange, from US Government selling off Bitcoins they stole from Silk Road, etc.
As places I used to use to buy/sell are all shut down, I might update this article or write completely new one on such places at later point after I research properly.
